Grenache Blanc, a Forgotten Grape?

Tercero Grenache Blanc

When I was a little boy, I often liked the idea of expoloration. My cousin and I would explore in our grandparents basement finding all kinds of fun and interesting discoveries from past decades. I even recall surfacing with a photo of my grandparents with a man, and it was autographed. When I inquired who the man was, I was told it was a night they had dinner with Johhny Cash in the early '60's. It might have been the first time I had heard that name, and it was a very cool discovery.

I don't think I've changed too much from that little boy wanting to explore and dig for interesting and fun finds. Being a wandering wino, I often gravitate towards wines off the beaten path, or maybe involve some exploration. These types of wines might be your next favorite.

One of the fun people I met ealier this year on an exploration was Chris Kern from Forgotten Grapes. Forgotten Grapes specializes in these types of wines that are not found abundantly. Chris offers these wines that are just waiting for discovery on his website http://www.forgottengrapes.com/grenache-blanc  True to my form, when this sample arrived I was drinking another "Forgotten Grape" that just so happens Chris offers, called Blaufränkisch, but that's an entire different excursion.

Grenache Blanc has in more recent years risen in popularity amongst many of the Rhone wine producers throughout California's central coast. I often jokingly refer to this wine as a breakfast wine because I find to be so refreshing.

Tercero Grenache Blanc

The Grenache Blanc nose offered minerality, and the first sip was refreshing, but made me simply want to dig more. Returning to the glass like a marathon runner dumping water on their head, this balanced wine showed lots of citrus, stone fruit, and peach notes. This is really a very nice wine exploration and priced in the consumers favor.

Might I suggest this Tercero Grenache Blanc with pan seared scallops in butter, or maybe grilled shrimp drizzeled with olive oil , fresh black pepper and a dash of heat.
