When wine travelers are asked for what they look for in a wine trip, the response is typically interest in: beautiful locations, education, and good wines. For those feeling a bit adventurous and willing to break out and discover something new, consider Carmel Valley, Monterey County, and the Santa Lucia Highlands region of California's Central Coast.

After a recent trip to this region, I found fantastic discoveries that I would suggest are highly recommended. Here is a suggested guideline to use for planning your next trip to wine country.

Thanksgiving Wine

Thanksgiving always has its special recipes, and the wine should be planned for in the same way. So how does one select the right wine for such an occasion?

The answer lies in the types of foods served, and those flavors that can contrast, or tie it all together. When thinking of thanksgiving flavors, some of the most prominent can often be rich flavors like in gravy, earthiness in things like cream of mushroom and herbs, buttery in turkey, breads, and many side dishes. There are certainly more, but these just might be a big part of the American standard ...

Lamb Shank

Throughout the year there are countless wine events, but none quite like the Ventura County Wine Trail Food and Wine Challenge. This event brings food and wine together the way they belong, paired, and tasted together. Local chefs and local winemakers put their goods to a pairing challenge. One bite is offered by the participating restaurant chefs, and one paired wine from the winemakers table. Revisiting the tables is encouraged.

Super Bowl Wine

Super Bowl Wine

Getting ready for a Super Bowl party? Last year I created a list of some of the more common super bowl foods and wines to pair.

While creating multiple dishes and wine to pair in a party atmosphere is a lot of fun, I thought about how many people may simply want to buy one wine. Reviewing the list of some of the great Super Bowl foods, I kept coming back to these key foods:

BBQ Ribs

Buffalo WIngs

Pulled Pork

These are Super Bowl staples, and any party ...

Glass Pinot

Pasadena Pinot Fest Grand Kickoff Dinner

to feature five chefs, five courses, and five wineries for a good cause

There are wine dinners, and then there are dinners worth getting my attention. In the short time of Wandering WIno's excistence, I have not written about anything related to a wine dinner. Mainly because there were none that really got me all that excited, and my wife, friends, and family will quickly attest, I do not fake my emotions well, especially when written, it's just not my style.

After working wine dinners and the gamit of restaurants, ranging from ...
